01/01/2007 - Swede dreams are made of this
YOUNG skaters from the Elgin-Moray Skating Academy are to practise their skills with others from around the world at a two-week international training camp in Sweden.
The five clubmates and their coach Graeme Summers will jet off to Scandinavia for the annual event which begins tomorrow (Saturday) in Orsa and attracts interest from around the globe.
All five skaters have a pedigree on the circiut having won major competitions at national level. Rowena and Mark are the top ranked Scottish under 14s.
Mr Summers – who coaches the youngsters with his sister Sue Farrell – insists it will be a great experience for all the youngsters.
“The chance to go to the camp will be beneficial for them all and hopefully they will take something away with them,” he said.
Four Swedish skaters and their coach will come to Elgin in July to train with the Academy.
Mrs Farrell added: “This is a great opportunity for our skaters to gain valuable experience training with skaters and coaches from around the world.
“Moray skaters have produced fantastic results over the past year – in fact some of the best results in the country. I’m sure this experience will help them go from strength to strength.”
Meanwhile, the club’s annual competitions take place at the Ice Rink at Moray Leisure Centre on Sunday with around 80 skaters competing in sections from beginners to advanced.
