Moray SkatersMoray skaters shine in cup competition

MORAY’S skaters are celebrating picking up the top team award at The Northern Cup competition, held at Moray Leisure Centre.

The event brought together more than 150 youngsters from Moray, Aberdeenshire and the Highlands to compete in a number of disciplines.

The club took top place in the UKstar competition placings while, in the overall standings, the home team finished second just four points behind Aberdeen. In the individual events, Moray headed the pack on several occasions and in some competitions won a clean sweep in some of the medal positions.

Graeme Summers, event director and Sk8Scotland’s director of special projects, said: “This was a big day for all the skaters involved. It was great to see Moray host such a large and important event. I would like to thank all the skaters, and also all the volunteers who worked so hard to make the event such a success.”

Co-director of Elgin-Moray Skating Academy, Sue Summers-Farrell, added: “This is another batch of great results for our local skaters, right after their recent successes in Ayr. We had some fantastic performances, and their medal wins were well deserved.” The Northern Cup has attracted much interest from coaches and officials around the UK, and the medal presentations were conducted by Moray MSP Richard Lochhead along with Sk8Scotland chairman Bryan Morrice. National Ice Skating Association UK Director Judy Clinton was also involved at the event.
